Therefore, we are taking extra time to create a set-up and discussion format that does justice to the lived experience of different groups from the Palestinian community.

Daarom nemen we extra tijd om een opzet en gespreksopstelling te creëren die recht doet aan de doorleefde ervaring van verschillende groepen uit de Palestijnse gemeenschap.
We verontschuldigen ons voor het ongemak bij iedereen die zich engageerde en tijd vrijmaakte, en hopen alle geïnteresseerden alsnog te kunnen verwelkomen op de uitgestelde datum.

Recent events of killings of Palestinians by the Israeli government as well as the recent protests taking place against the Israeli State have sparked renewed media attention on Palestine. However, unless there are specific events Western media often keep silent about the continuous Israeli system of apartheid and the ongoing oppression of Palestinians. Even when they do pay attention to specific events, they are often presented as unsolvable ‘cycles of violence’ or as ‘religious clashes’, thereby denying the structural mechanisms that are at play: oppression, discrimination and ethnic cleansing of Palestinian civilians by the State of Israel.
With this panel discussion Kif Kif offers a platform for dialogue and discussion.
To what extent are religious motives really at play in the situation in Palestine and to what extent are geopolitics and geopolitical economic interests involved? We will try to start unravelling religious and political aspects and causes. Does unravelling those bring us closer to possible solutions?
In order to address these questions we will dig deeper into:
The backgrounds and roots of the situation in Palestine and structural mechanisms behind it.
The different mechanisms of oppression by the State of Israel: Apartheid, Zionism, Israelian occupation and colonization. (The Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza, the settlements and the legal state of apartheid)
The realities of daily life in the region (such as checkpoints, surveillance technologies, the apartheid wall and the separation of families)
The role of geopolitics in this oppression. This includes the involvement of the Belgian state (Belgium) trading with and making investments with the State of Israel as well as often denying asylum to Palestinians who fled to Belgium.
Questions about contributions to possible solutions, such as: can the international community contribute to peace and justice? What can we do as organizations and initiatives? Can we be inspired to contribute to justice and peace in Palestine through our own works and lives?

De recente gebeurtenissen van dodelijke aanvallen op Palestijnen door de Israëlische staat en de recente protesten tegen de Israëlische staat hebben opnieuw de aandacht van de media op Palestina gevestigd. Tenzij er specifieke gebeurtenissen zijn, echter, zwijgen de westerse media vaak over de voortdurende apartheidssystemen tegen en de voortdurende onderdrukking van de Palestijnen. Zelfs wanneer zij wel aandacht besteden aan specifieke gebeurtenissen, worden deze vaak voorgesteld als onoplosbare "geweldscycli" of als "religieuze botsingen", waardoor de structurele mechanismen die in het spel zijn worden ontkend: onderdrukking, discriminatie en etnische zuivering van Palestijnse burgers door de staat Israël.
Met deze paneldiscussie biedt Kif Kif een platform voor dialoog en discussie.
In hoeverre spelen religieuze motieven werkelijk een rol in de situatie in Palestina en in hoeverre zijn er geopolitieke en geopolitieke economische belangen mee gemoeid? We zullen proberen een begin te maken met het ontrafelen van religieuze en politieke aspecten en oorzaken. Brengt het ontrafelen daarvan ons dichter bij mogelijke oplossingen?
Hiervoor zullen wij dieper ingaan op:
- De achtergronden en wortels van de situatie in Palestina en de structurele mechanismen erachter.
- De verschillende mechanismen van onderdrukking door de staat Israël: Apartheid, Zionisme, Israëlische bezetting en kolonisatie.
- De realiteit van het dagelijkse leven in de regio (controleposten, veiligheid, geweld).
- De rol van de geopolitiek in deze onderdrukking. Dit omvat de betrokkenheid van de Belgische staat die handel drijft met en investeert in de industrieën van de staat Israël, alsook het vaak weigeren van asiel aan Palestijnen die naar België zijn gevlucht.
- Vragen over mogelijke bijdrages aan oplossingen, zoals: kan de internationale gemeenschap bijdragen aan vrede en rechtvaardigheid? Wat kunnen wij als organisaties en initiatieven doen? Kunnen we geïnspireerd worden om met ons eigen werk en leven bij te dragen aan gerechtigheid en vrede in Palestina?
